We give our heartfelt thanks to our granting agencies, U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration (for the Net at Two Rivers Literacy and Lifelong Learning Project) and U. S. Department of Interior Federal Geographic Data Committee (for the Tahoe - Northern Sierra Nevada Internet Project) because without their assistance, the Internet would still be a few years coming to our rural areas in the northern Sierra Nevada region.
Special thanks to Betty Riley, Executive Director of Sierra Planning and Economic Development District, Joseph Kruth, Chair of Tahoe Center for a Sustainable Future, Jonathan Sass, Head of Getting Things Done for Tahoe-Truckee Community Network, and Gary Darling, Chief Information Officer of CERES for their unflappable ideological support of bringing the Internet and all of its rich informational resources to our rural region. Also thanks to Net at Two Rivers' Co-Directors Barb Englund and Cynthia Mulit, two bright young women with vision, tenacity, and a powerful ability to bring different people together around a concept. To Sacramento County Office of Education and OTAN, thanks for the K-12 emphasis and the exciting prospects of distance learning for our rural areas.
Rarely does one see the commitment to collaboration that was demonstrated in this program. Heartfelt thanks go to every Net at Two Rivers and Tahoe - Northern Sierra Nevada Internet Project partner who contributed to the collaborative group process for program development, who contributed to our program with in-kind and cash match, and who contributed a collective of volunteerism totaling hundreds of hours that were crucial to the success of both Internet projects.
We also are indebted to rural Internet Service Providers who brave the uncertainties of new business start-up and development. This small group of entrepreneurs will be pioneers in the realm of public-private partnerships and every rural resident will be dependent upon this new valuable infrastructure.
