Description: The project is a cooperative effort between Kings Beach Elementary (2nd grade, Martha Starks; 4th grade, Anne Thomas) and the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) to restore the Stream Environment Zone and stream reach of Snow Creek. The CTC and Placer County have been studying the area and developing project concepts since 1994 and are nearing design completion. The classroom project focuses on seed collection, germination, and replanting at the site following restoration project construction.

Instructional Goals of the Project:

• Investigate the Snow Creek site and learn its history.
• Learn how to collect seeds from certain plants and the role of seed production in species propagation.
• Germinate seeds needed for the 1997 restoration project.
• Work with the CTC to find a suitable location for planting and establish a monitoring schedule for long-term monitoring.
• Use a cross-grade model to encourage students to learn from each other.
