Description: Survey and evaluate the present condition of several reaches of Bijou Creek to determine how the reconstructed stream bed is changing since its creation in 1993/94. Student collected data will add to long-term datasets maintained by the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) to track morphologic and other changes to the stream system as a result of restoration projects.

Instructional Goals of the Project:

• Data collection for water quality, stream flow, stream morphology, and macroinvertebrates.
• Evaluation of data including comparison between classes and establishing baseline conditions for future compartive studies.
• Involve non-college bound science students in field studies to peak their interest in environmental issues and scientific method.
• Begin a long-term study of river/stream processes which will start modestly and eventually involve most of the science students at the high school.

Evaluation Technique: student reports, maps produced, presentations to public agency groups, tests.
