More than half of the 70 organizations have been surveyed, 5 home pages have been created (including TRPA, located at: http://ceres.ca.gov/trpa), and over 150 people trained so far as part of the NTIA Grant Program, which is now fully underway for the next 12 months. CERES is acting as the server. SueRae Irelan, Heather Babcock and Chris Golightly are doing an excellent job of learning the technology and applying it.
With the addition of the U. S. Geological Survey, there are now 10 partners in the Program, which is making steady progress towards an integrated, regional communications capability.
Creating a regional Geographical Information System is also being investigated by TRPA and other organizations. TCSF will explore how it can add value to the effort.
A "Workshop on Concepts, Communication and Process for Sustainable Ecosystem Management" with partners Institute for Sustainable Development and TRPA was presented for 35 key management and staff of partners in the Program. The workshop reviewed ecosystem indicator models, tools and methodologies in current scientific approaches. TCSF is very pleased to have partners such as ISD who bring such strong scientific capability to the Program. The team will next develop specific steps to define and apply appropriate program elements for the Tahoe region.
With partners Sierra Nevada College (SNC), UNEX - UC Davis and TTREC, this year's program will be held on June 24-25 at SNC. As the region's schools begin to integrate economic and human well being issues into the environmental education curriculum, TCSF also will work with organizations and schools outside of the region to allow our teachers and students to share information and establish collaborative peer learning. A meeting is scheduled with Autodesk Foundation to bring together representatives from Tahoe, Marin, Monterey and Mendocino Counties. We will explore how internet technologies can help students learn from each other in various locations.
We appreciate and acknowledge support from the Fred Gellert Foundation and the Stanley Foundation, as well TRPA through its partnership funds. We also acknowledge CERES for its server and technical support, the League to Save Lake Tahoe for providing in kind services for bookkeeping and accounting, Kier Staehli at the Mind's Eye for an excellent logo design and Renotype for its camera work. Thank you to all.
TCSF is actively seeking additional board members, particularly from the scientific, business and philanthropic communities. Any suggestions are welcome.
