Post-Survey Acceptance Letter

Letter sent to the twenty-five organizations chosen to participate in the Tahoe Basin Wide Area Network (TBWAN):

NTIA Grant Program Participation - Acceptance Letter

The Tahoe Center for a Sustainable Future (TCSF) and the Tahoe Truckee Community Network (TTCN) have collaborated to bring a grant from the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) to the Tahoe/Truckee region. This grant's organizing focus is improving access to Regional information important to securing a future with a healthy environment, sustainable economy, and involved community. This grant will fund accelerated development of the ability to use information technologies in our Region by working intensively with 25 organizations to assist in their effective use and creative applications.

Over the last two months the staff at TCSF has contacted over 100 organizations in the Region to determine interest in the program. Based on the answers to survey questions we have selected your organization, as one of 25 organizations as an initial group for the program. Inclusion is based on the type and quality of each organization's information to share, the type of organization and how its needs fit with the initial group, its interest level and commitment to use the technology to develop applications.

TCSF staff will be available to provide intensive training, support and trouble-shooting for the initial group. Throughout the one year grant period, your organization will receive free homepage posting to share information, learn together how to develop and demonstrate its applications, save time and money, and improve the quality of public service and work products. The overall effort will create the foundation and infrastructure for a successful region-wide communications system for the future.

You may visit the Tahoe Regional Index (still under construction) online at http://www.ceres.ca.gov/tcsf/region.html or see the homepages that have been created so far as part of the grant program at http://www.ceres.ca.gov/tcsf/tbwan.html (to date, these include TCSF, TRPA, TTREC, California Tahoe Conservancy, Sierra District State Parks, Tahoe Foundation, Strategic Marketing Group, and Tahoe Baikal Institute). This project has created a Tahoe Basin wide-area network (TBWAN) with linked web sites on the internet. Note: One of the applications already identified is to place the TRPA "IPES database" on the web, allowing anyone with the parcel number to access corresponding IPES scores. We are seeking other ideas for applications and solicit your input.

In order to get your organization started, you and members of your staff are welcome to attend any of our upcoming Internet Workshops at Sierra Nevada College. See attached Upcoming Training Workshops. Please contact Sue Rae Irelan (916-525-1646) for more information and workshop registration or for any ideas you may have for applications which would add value to your efforts.

If you are ready for the one-on-one homepage creation training session, please contact Heather Babcock (916-525-9100 or 916-583-1366) to set up a date. Please see the attached Training Preparation Checklist prior to the training session.

Congratulations and thank you for your interest and participation in this important program.

Sincerely,

Joseph Kruth
